Sundays

A day for rest! Not around here! Oh well. I am headed out the door to church again and when I get home I will be studying for my quiz on Microbiology and Infection Control. Yipeee! What I always wanted to learn about: creepy crawlies and how to kill them.

Friday Fast Facts

This is the day where I will not bore you with lengthy stories of my day! (You're not really bored are you?) Here are some fast facts!

Fact: I will make an idiot of myself in traffic EVERY day.

Fact: I love me neighbor as myself. I love to drive at least the speed limit, I love when my neighbor does the same, which did not happen this morning.

Fact: I do unto others as I would have them do unto me, therefore I did not ride my neighors bumper all the way from my street to the highway because I would be ticked if he did that to me.

Fact: I have never had a bikini wax.

Fact: I am not looking forward to bikini wax day in class.

Fact: I am not alone in this. One other classmate joined me as I went completely white and jaw dropped open when it was mentioned we WOULD be doing these in class on each other.

Fact: It is possible for a man to enroll in Beauty School and not be gay.

Fact: It is rare.

Fact: I am in this world not of it.

Fact: Lecture days are not fun. All week has been all lectures. Good info but a lot of common sense stuff which we all knows comes so naturally to me.

Fact: I have the best huband in all the world. He had dinner ready every night when I came home, and he did the laundry yesterday. He's amazing!

Fact: I was sooooo tired last night I started this note from my phone after I crawled in bed.

Fact: You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for the comments and such on my notes. I am toying with the idea of doing a blog, but I know that is a commitment. At least it should be. Just not sure if I'm ready. We'll see!

(Update: I began this as notes on Facebook. I am trying this blogging thing and seeing how it goes. I am really new at this and I am notorious for not finishing things I have started so I am hoping this is not one of those things. I do believe though that a blog is never supposed to be finished so maybe this is a good thing!)

Day 3, only 77 to Go

1. Driving without shoes is very liberating! Until you slow down too fast and one of your shoes flies beneath your gas pedal and you can't leave the intersection because you can not reach your shoe to get it out. This did not happen to me, but as I was driving without my shoes on this morning and relishing in the freedom, I had the scary thought of "What if?" I promptly pulled my shoes out from under my seat and placed them in the passenger floorboard. Ahhhh sweet freedom again!

2. Metal files and graters are illegal to use in a salon. If you are getting a pedicure and your lady pulls out one of these it is a huge red flag. That and numerous other things that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up because you have probably seen it done and didn't realize it is either unsanitary or it is illegal or it is both. Like pedicure "thrones" should be disinfected for at least 15 minutes between clients. If you watch and notice the prior client leave and you are asked to sit there and it hasn't been 15 minutes, you should leave immeadiately. Also your manicurist should be using new nail files, and buffers. It is illegal for them to use the same file or buffer on more than one person. These things are porous and can not be disinfected. I won't be doing manicures or pedicures but this subject came up today and I thought I would pass the info along.

3. I am looking forward to extractions! What are extractions you ask! Let me enlighten you! That is when you have a pore that is clogged ( a.k.a. pimple, zit, crater, blackhead ) and your Esthetician (me!) uses a special tool called an extractor to remove whatever may be clogging that pore. I am looking forward to it!

4. When you don't have enough hands and you place your travel mug inside your purse without first making sure it is empty you will inevitably lean over and it will spill. If you are like me you will be more worried about what got on your clothes than what may or may not have gone INSIDE your purse. (In fact I didn't even think about it!) When you get home you will go about your business, eating dinner and such chatting with the family and eventually an hour and a half after you spilled unnamed beverage (Chai Tea) you will pull your books out of your purse (it's a big purse) and notice that one book now has that beverage wetting the top of each cover and every page. Crap! Again, if you are like me you will then begin to wipe each page and pull them apart. You WILL contemplating just buying a new book even though it's only the edges and hasn't actually ruined anything vital because darn it, who wants a crummy looking book on the 4th day of school? You will then (if you are like me) get a question from your near teenager-dom daughter telling you just to get another book, to which you reply, "These books are like 50 dollars, I don't need to buy another one." This will make you curious as to the exact price of the book and you WILL go find your receipt. After reading the actual price of just over $100.00 you WILL get out your hairdryer and begin drying each and every page. Yes all 400 something pages, you will dry them. If you are anything like me that is.

5. A 2 year old can make a grown woman cry when she cries EVERY morning when you leave. That same 2 year old can make that same grown woman wail like a tiny baby getting vaccinations when she grabs your earring and twists it with her pudgy little fingers and iron grip and is staring at you like you have lost your mind when you begin to wail. Yes this did happen and not only did I wail, I now have a headache. This didn't happen at school but a few minutes ago.

6. I run in to people. It is a flaw I have. I don't know why. Yes I do. It is because I can not see out of the peripheral vision of my left eye which happens to be where the the president of the school was at when I ran SMACK in to him. Yeah, the president. He looked annoyed, I was embarassed and my classmate had a field day laughing at me from down the hall. Note to self, when walking down small hallways LOOK IN FRONT OF YOU!!! This is common sense for most people, but especially important for me.

Day 2 Lessons Learned

1. I am uncomfortable with the thought of men requesting certain waxing services. Thankfully I will not be required to perform those services in order to graduate because I know that I know that I know I WILL NOT be offering those services.

2. I can not be intimidated into singing by a room full of women with sharp scissors. They do not scare me. And I refuse to be tricked into some lame freshman move because you feel the need to get one over on someone. Besides, if I sang the joke would be on you. I AM THAT BAD! Honestly I am confident enough in who I am that I am more than happy to say no when I don't want to do something.

3. Client care is equal to common sense. And the Golden Rule. Treat others as you would have them treat you.

4. I CAN survive on 5 1/2 hours of sleep if I keep busy.

5. I am right smack in the middle of where God wants me! And it feels great!

6 Things I learned on my first day of Esthetician's School

"About myself, about others, and about my chosen profession.

1. I hate redundancy. I have read the handbook twice on my own and now twice as a group. I want to burn it.

2. My biggest pet peeve on the face of the planet is when people read aloud without the skill to do so. To read words incorrectly repeatedly and to mispronounce words repeatedly is annoying, and in my book equates to nails on a chalkboard because I cringe EVERY single time and in my head I have a red pen and I am correcting every mistake. Please feel free to reply with comments on not judging people, I need it and I deserve it and it may actually help me. :)

3. There is a makeup called Kryolan. It is used by theater professional's. I want to know more about this happy thing!

4. Certain medications and medical conditions can dry your skin out to the point that your skin WILL come completely off during a wax treatment. Not pleasant for the client, not pleasant for the Esthetician. Always be honest with your Esthetician (Me!). I don't want to be responsible for peeling your skin off.

5. Aromatherapy is not just to please your nose, but it also stimulates things in your brain. So again, be honest with your Esthetician as certain scents can stimulate the wrong things depending on your medical history. Such as Sandalwood. Apparently it takes the anti out of anti-depressants and will cause a deeper depression. Who knew?

6. The 'F' word remains shocking no matter how many times you hear it. :("
